Born on 10 May 1893 in Washington, County Durham and educated at Durham School, he worked in the South Russian oil fields, before he was commissioned, as a Second Lieutenant, in 8 DLI in January 1915. He fought with 8 DLI on the Somme in 1916 and was wounded. In August 1918, whilst serving with 15 DLI, he was awarded the Military Cross for "many daring reconnaissances", near Miraumont, Somme. After the war, he worked in the USA. He returned home in 1934 and rejoined 8 DLI, but was found unfit for active service in 1940. Vernon Perrott died at Wolsingham in 1961.
